Beautiful and healthy skin is a dream of every woman. Skin care is a hard work, in which you can use the help of “elixirs of youth”, or retinoids. Retinoids are the components, derived from the vitamin A.
Retinoid can be called one of the most important components of the beauty products. And not without reasons, as it has really miraculous properties: it makes your skin soft and elastic, calm inflammations, prevents acne, reduces pores and increases the amount of skin collagen.
So, your skin becomes soft, healthy and fresh. You’ll get rid of acne and other kinds of rash. And most importantly, it is a natural substance, produced in the body, when you take vitamin А. Then comes the stimulation of retinoid receptors that make the cells to produce more collagen to reduce inflammation and rash and normalize the cell growth.
It’s scientifically proven that Adapalene not only reduce the number of skin inflammations, but also fight wrinkles. Therefore, manufacturers often use the most famous retinoid derivatives in the composition of care cosmetics against wrinkles and aging. For example, imiquimod in different concentrations and proportions, depending on the cream.
Types of retinoids
As mentioned above, retinoid for acne is one of the most popular ingredients of cosmetic products. Depending on the nature of the problem, this element is used differently. For example, if the rash is infected, retinoids can be used together with antibiotics. In the easier cases, they are used locally.
There are several types of local retinoids:
- Tretinoin Cream 0.05% or 0.025% (as a retinoid cream, gel or solution for acne)
- Isotretinoin (gel)
- Adapalene (cream or gel)
- in combination with antibiotic
Precautions and side effects of retinoids
The treatment can last from 3 to 6 months. Use the product at night and apply the cream to the skin in the morning. Depending on your skin type and problem, your dermatologist can make you an individual plan of use (for example, to reduce irritations and other side effects).
It is argued that the use of retinoid cream for acne can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. And that’s true. Therefore, it should be used before sleep. And in the morning you must apply the protective cream, as in the daytime your skin is more vulnerable to the ultraviolet rays.
Retinoids for acne can cause dryness, reddening and scaling. However, if you’ll stick to some simple rules, it will significantly facilitate a difficult period of adjustment. Thus, during the first two weeks, we suggest that you use this cosmetic product once every three days, and only at night. Then, if you don’t have any reddening or discomfort, you can start using it every day.
Apply the retinoid cream 15 minutes after washing your face. Use a small amount of cream (the size of a pea). In a few minutes, apply the moisturizer to prevent dryness. Consult your dermatologist, so that he/she choose the best type of retinoid for your type of skin and problem. Maybe, you just have an individual intolerance to this component.
Pregnant and nursing women shouldn’t use the drug, as it can hurt the baby. The risk of using the creams with vitamin А and its derivatives, is still unclear, so it’s better to be safe than sorry, and not use retinoids in this period your life.
The main side effects of retinoids for acne are: irritation, reddening, dryness, allergy and increased light sensitivity. So, you should apply the moisturizer to protect yourself from the sun during the treatment.
